SATURDAY 15 AND SUNDAY 16 SEPTEMBER 2018 FROM 10AM TO 4PM A FESTIVAL OF BUBBLES AT THE HORSESHOE: FREE GUIDED TOURS, DIY WORKSHOPS AND ENTERTAINMENT
Conviviality and learning will be the watchwords at Le Fer à Cheval during this year's European Heritage Days, under the banner of "The Art of Sharing". A festive, family-friendly weekend awaits you in the courtyard of Marseille's oldest soap factory. Genuine Marseille soap has always stood out for its history and legendary virtues. But to perpetuate the ancestral tradition, it's up to future generations to tell the tale. So, on Saturday September 15 and Sunday September 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., young and old alike are invited to join in the festivities.
DIY WORKSHOPS AND GAMES
Who said that making your own washing powder or shaving foam wasn't for everyone? The secret of the recipe and the tricks of the trade will be revealed at the soap factory's events over the two days. Every effort will be made to raise awareness and encourage everyone to learn about the history of Marseille soap and its thousand and one virtues. Various games, such as "la planche de savon", "le jeu du fer à cheval" or "la pétanque" in partnership with the Boule Bleue, will be on the program. All supervised by a team of enthusiasts.
Like every year, they'll open the doors to the soap factory's most intimate rooms. The ones that reveal old cauldrons boiling with tradition and baking secrets. At Le Fer à Cheval, this ancestral know-how has remained unchanged since 1856. The unique method of soap saponification is taught by master soap-makers, using the true "Marseillaise" method. This unique manufacturing process takes up to 10 days to produce the famous Marseille soap. Once the ingredients have been lovingly transformed, it's off to the molding workshop, where the mythical cube of Marseille soap finally takes shape.
