Conviviality and learning will be the key words at the Fer à Cheval on the occasion of the European Heritage Days placed this year under the sign of “The Art of Sharing”. The meeting takes place in the courtyard of the oldest soap factory in Marseille for a festive and family weekend. Genuine Marseille soap has always stood out for its history and legendary virtues. But to perpetuate the ancestral tradition, it is to future generations that they must be told. So, during the days of Saturday September 15 to Sunday September 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., both young and old are invited to the party.

DIY WORKSHOPS AND GAMES

Who said that making your own laundry detergent or shaving foam isn't within everyone's reach? The secret of the recipe and tips will be revealed during the activities offered by the soap factory throughout the two days. Everything will be done to raise awareness and make everyone want to take ownership of the history of Marseille soap and its thousand and one virtues. Various games, such as “soap board”, “horseshoe game” or even “pétanque” in partnership with Boule Bleue, will be on the program. All supervised by enthusiasts.

The latter will open the doors, as every year, to the most intimate rooms of the soap factory. Those that reveal old cauldrons boiling with traditions and cooking secrets. At Fer à Cheval, this ancestral know-how has remained unchanged since 1856. The unique method of saponifying soap is taught there by master soap makers, according to the true “Marseillaise” method. This unique manufacturing process requires up to 10 days to obtain the famous Marseille soap. Once the ingredients have been lovingly transformed, head to the molding workshop where the legendary cube of Marseille soap finally takes shape.
