European Heritage Days 2019

European Heritage Days 2019

Visit Marseille's only soap factory, listed as a historical monument.

The European Heritage Days will focus on Arts and Entertainment for this 36th edition in 2019. The Fer à Cheval Soapworks, recently listed as a historic monument in the same way as the Château d'IF, the Cité Radieuse and Fort Saint Jean, will be opening its workshops to the public and preparing a host of surprises for the occasion.

Our soap factory, Marseille's oldest soap factory still in operation, will be unveiling its molding workshop to visitors on Saturday September 21 and Sunday September 22, from 10am to 4pm.

Young and old alike can discover the secrets of molding while touring this place steeped in history and enjoying DIY (Do It Yourself) workshops to prepare their own washing powder or exfoliating soap!

ANCESTRAL MANUFACTURING

Visitors will be able to discover the secrets of molding, and enter the molding workshop to observe the mechanical drying of the soap paste, then the manufacture of the raw material called soap pellets, which will take the shape of the mythical stamped Marseille Soap cube. WELL-THOUGHT-OUT WORKSHOPS

This year, Fer à Cheval joins forces with Flamants Verts to entertain young and old alike, offering visitors the chance to take part in zero-waste Do It Yourself mini-workshops. On the program: recipes for maintaining your home, pampering your family, and making your own multi-purpose spray, laundry detergent, shower gel or exfoliating soap. All based on Savon de Marseille Fer à Cheval, made with 100% natural ingredients, of course! Fun, creative, manual workshops where each recipe can be personalized.

In between activities, you can enjoy a game of pétanque on the Boule Bleue courts, or take part in a stamping workshop to personalize your own Marseille soap.
