Our customers are the best to talk about it

The Fer à Cheval Soap Factory

Founded in 1856, Fer à Cheval is the oldest and largest Marseille Soap factory, and one of the very last in France to perpetuate the artisanal and ancestral manufacturing of Marseille soap under the expert eye of its master soap makers.
For more than 160 years, the soap factory has continued to make this iconic product with tradition, meticulousness and a great deal of passion, according to the recipe certified by Colbert's Edict in 1688 and reinforced by Napoleon Bonaparte's decree of 1812, which today makes its worldwide reputation.
We are at the very source of the product and pass on this know-how from generation to generation, to the point of being today a Living Heritage Company and holder of the Qualité Tourisme and Origine France Garantie labels for an ancestral Made in France know-how.
Our soap factory is listed as a Historic Monument, like the Château d'IF, the Cité radieuse and Fort Saint Jean. In Marseille, only 90 monuments have been listed and Fer à Cheval is the only soap factory.
From a historical point of view, our factory represents a heritage interest that bears witness to the traditional activity of the Marseille soap industry in the 19th century
