Old-fashioned saponification in cauldrons

It takes almost 10 days to make our soap, cooked in cauldrons using the authentic Marseille process. This traditional know-how, preciously handed down from generation to generation by our Master Soap-makers, is still at the forefront of our production.

  RSPO (Roundtable on sustainable palm oil) certified palm oil is a sustainable oil whose production practices reduce deforestation, preserve biodiversity and respect workers' living conditions. Palm oil is ideal for saponification due to its composition. Composed mainly of palmitic acid, it guarantees the soap's hardness, strong lathering and cleaning power, ideal for removing even the most stubborn stains.

Marseille Soap is ideal for cleansing the whole family. It is suitable for all skin types. It can also be used as a multi-purpose household cleaner. It effectively cleans, degreases and removes stains from all surfaces and linen, even the most delicate.

Clean

Walls, ceilings

There's nothing like Marseille soap for washing and degreasing walls and ceilings. Dilute a handful of soap shavings in a bucket of hot water. Clean with a sponge broom and rinse with clean water.

Iron

Regularly clean any iron soleplate that has become dirty or yellow by rubbing with a piece of dry soap when the soleplate is slightly warm. Wipe with a soft dry cloth or a ball of newspaper to shine the surface.

Make-up brushes and sponges

Regular washing will rid them of dust and make-up residues that have built up over time. Gently soap brushes without crushing them too much, to avoid breaking the bristles. Repeat washing until the water runs clear. Dry with a dry cloth, then turn upside down so that the brushes regain their original shape.

Mattresses

To keep your mattress fresh and clean, simply wipe the surfaces to be cleaned with a washcloth moistened with Marseille soap. Then rinse with a clean water-soaked washcloth and leave to dry all day.

Strollers, nursery equipment

Hypoallergenic, Marseille soap is ideal for caring for childcare equipment such as strollers. Machine-wash removable covers with a detergent made from Marseille soap shavings. For non-removable covers, wash with a sponge dampened with soap. For stubborn, odorous stains, rub with soap and a little baking soda, leave for a few hours to loosen the dirt, then rinse. Leave to air-dry.

Shoes

Scrub your shoes with a soft brush soaked in warm water and Marseille soap, and leave to air-dry without rinsing.

Tips

Remove mist

To combat fogging of your mirrors, glasses...simply rub a small piece of Marseille Soap over the surfaces and wipe with a clean cloth. Repeat this trick every month.

Unlocking a zipper

To loosen your zipper, use a piece of Marseille soap and rub the zipper notches.

Erasing hem marks

To remove hem marks, rub Marseille soap over the surface, place a piece of tissue paper on top and iron with a hot iron.

Laundry care

Traditional recipe

Dilute a handful or 40g of shavings in 1L of hot water and stir until a gel is formed, then the lye is ready to use. Store in a suitable bottle, and shake well before each use.

Recipe for stubborn stains

Dilute 100g of shavings in 2L of hot water, add 1 cup of baking soda and ½ cup of white vinegar. Allow to cool and shake well before use.

Stubborn stains

As a general rule, rub dry stains and shirt collars and cuffs with moistened soap before machine or hand washing.

For tougher stains, follow the same procedure, but leave for a few hours before washing.

Maintenance

Leather sofa

Coat a moistened, well-wrung washcloth or cloth with Marseille soap, then lightly massage the leather in circular motions. Dry with a clean cloth. This cleaning will give the leather suppleness and longevity.

Wooden terrace

Regularly rid your terrace of mold, dirt and pollution accumulated over months by washing it down with a brush, a basin of hot water and a handful of diluted soap shavings. This simple, effective cleaning will help maintain your terrace over time.

Directions for use

Preserving Marseille soap

 Store Marseille soap in a shady, dry place. It's a living material, with a complexion and shape that can change over time, depending on exposure to air, humidity and light. It will nevertheless retain all its qualities and effectiveness. Our grandmothers used to leave it to dry for months in their cupboards, so that it would become extra-dry and last longer in use.

Making your own chips

Use a cheese grater to make shavings from a cube or bar of Marseille soap. We recommend that you use beige vegetable soap, which is harder and easier to grate than olive soap.

This soap may undergo color variations depending on exposure to light and humidity. Consisting of active ingredients and a maximum of 21% water, it loses part of its weight as it loses this water.
